In The Nature of Dogs, Mary Ludington seeks to capture the true nature of dogs—their beauty, character, and spirit. Her spectacular and sensitive photographs capture the particular personalities of sixty different breeds. Evocative commentaries shed light on the origins, history and hallmarks of this diverse group.

For additional insight and perspective, The Nature of Dogs includes a foreword by Patricia Hampl and five engaging essays from familiar writers and prominent public figures: Mary Gaitskill, James Hillman, Temple Grandin, Kevin Kling, Winona LaDuke, and Peter Trachtenberg.
